Microsoft has launched a new lightweight AI model called Phi-3-mini. The company plans to release this as the first of three small language models (SLM).
SLMs are designed to perform simpler tasks and are cost-effective options for companies with limited resources. Microsoft hopes to attract a wider client base with these models.
Phi-3-mini is now available on Microsoft’s cloud service platform Azure’s AI model catalog, machine learning model platform Hugging Face, and Ollama, a framework for running models on a local machine.
It has also been optimized for Nvidia’s software tool, Nvidia Inference Microservices (NIM), and its graphics processing units (GPUs).
