The Microsoft-developed code editor Visual Studio Code 1.74 recently saw the addition of a remote tunnelling feature that enables developers to safely connect to their VS Code machine from any device, anywhere.

VS Code 1.74, commonly known as the November 2022 version, was announced on December 7. Using vscode.dev or the Remote – Tunnels extension from the VS Code desktop, developers can connect securely to a remote VS Code machine thanks to the remote tunnels preview function. Remote tunnels eliminate the need for SSH configuration in order to provide a secure connection.

In VS Code 1.74, remote tunnels can be enabled from the Account menu or the command palette. They can be enabled by downloading the new VS Code CLI and running./code tunnel from a system that has VS Code installed and is on the PATH.
