Canonical has released its real-time Linux Ubuntu 22.04 LTS platform, which aims to offer end-to-end security and reliability for time-constrained workloads.
Version 22.04, introduced on February 14 and intended for use in telecommunications, aerospace, defense and public sector applications, provides deterministic responses to real-time events and seeks to minimize deadline response time guarantees. Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, based on Linux kernel version 5.15, integrates the PREEMPT_RT out-of-tree fixset for Arm and x86 architectures.
This set of fixes reduces kernel latency and ensures predictable task execution. Canonical said PREEMP_RT makes the kernel more pre-emptive than main Linux.
