OpenAI announced it will leave the Chinese market, prompting local tech companies like Tencent, Baidu, and Alibaba to offer migration plans and discounts to affected users. Zhipu, another large language model firm, offers a special migration plan. Some experts expected this move to be part of Washington’s efforts to limit Beijing’s access to advanced technologies, including AI.
Mature language models may lead to a secondary AI boom within China. Over 200 firms are attempting to implement a language model in the country, subject to regulatory approval.
