OpenAI is moving forward. A trio of former Facebook and Instagram employees founded the New York City-based startup Global Illumination, Inc. in 2021.
The company that owns ChatGPT and Dall-E 2 recently announced that it had acquired the company. According to OpenAI, the Global Illumination staff members will “work on our core products, including ChatGPT.”
Despite this, Global Illumination’s name and prior work seem to be focused on visually-oriented products and services, suggesting that OpenAI may be working to expand its Dall-E 2 image generation service or pursue more multimedia features for ChatGPT.
It also may be launching a video generation product to compete with fellow New York City startup Runway’s Gen-2 text-to-video generator.
