According to Cloudflare, a Mirai botnet variant launched a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack that peaked at 2.5 terabytes per second (Tbps), making it the largest attack it has ever encountered in terms of bitrate.
UDP and TCP floods were used in the attack, which targeted Wynncraft, a Minecraft server. The web security company claimed that by containing the attack, no disruption to the game was caused.
While Microsoft last year recorded two attacks that reached 3.25 Tbps and 3.47 Tbps, this attack may have been a record-breaker for Cloudflare. This year, Cloudflare also experienced an attack with 26 million requests per second (RPS).
