Microsoft Corp. has unveiled Phi-2, a new artificial intelligence model that shows amazing performance capabilities, matching or even surpassing that of much larger and more well-established models up to 25 times its size.

Microsoft said in a blog post that Phi-2 is a 2.7 billion-parameter language model that exhibits “state-of-the-art performance” in comparison to other base models on challenging benchmark tests that assess its aptitude for arithmetic, coding, reasoning, and language comprehension.

Phi-2 is now available for researchers and developers wishing to incorporate it into third-party applications through the model catalog of Microsoft Azure AI Studio.
