Meta Platforms Inc. has announced its latest big contribution to the Open Compute Project: Grand Teton, a new, next-generation platform for artificial intelligence at large scale.

Famously, Meta was one of the OCP’s original members when it first formed in 2012. At the time, its work was primarily focused on developing standards for the compatibility of networking and server hardware used in data centers, but today its work is much more narrowly focused.

The social media company said in a blog post, “A high-performance infrastructure is needed to support AI workloads, which are becoming more powerful and sophisticated and are one of the biggest challenges Meta faces.”
