Linux Foundation introduces Open Metaverse Foundation

The non-profit Linux Foundation has launched the Open Metaverse Foundation (OMF) to promote an open metaverse.

The Cloud Native Computing Foundation, Futurewei, GenXP, Hyperledger Foundation, LF AI, LF Edge & Networking, Open Voice Network, Open Wallet, and Veriken are some of the organizations that currently participate in the OMF. Open-source organizations and communities will advance the Web3 vision for the metaverse’s future through the Open Metaverse Foundation.

In order to avoid “lock-in” to any particular experience, the OMF thinks that open standards must be developed, allowing users to transport their avatars to any interoperable virtual environment.
