Google incorporates AI into cloud-based development environments

To make it simpler to develop and deploy full-stack and multiplatform applications using well-known languages and frameworks, Google has introduced Project IDX, a browser-based development environment that combines templates and generative AI assistance.

Those interested in using the preview service must first sign up for a waitlist. Project IDX begins with a web-based workspace that will be comfortable for developers and is powered by the Codey foundational AI model, according to Google. It is built on Google Cloud.

Google’s Project IDX is investigating how advancements in AI, such as Codey and the PaLM 2 large language model, can aid programmers in producing higher-quality code and constructing applications more quickly.
