The Wall Street Journal reported OpenAI, the artificial intelligence lab that created the popular ChatGPT chatbot and Dall-E image generator, is in talks to sell shares in a tender offering that would value the business at about USD 29 billion, citing people familiar with the situation.

According to the newspaper, venture capital firms Thrive Capital and Founders Fund are in talks to invest in the deal, which also includes the sale of at least USD 300 million worth of shares from current investors, including employees.

In spite of having little revenue, the deal would almost double the company’s valuation from a tender offer in 2021, making it one of the most valuable US startups on paper.
