Multiple Chinese tech firms have launched new chips to support “Global Scheduling Ethernet” (GSE), a networking protocol aimed at handling the data demands of AI and high-performance computing (HPC).
China Mobile, the country’s largest mobile carrier, has been developing this technology since 2023, following a white paper on its architecture. GSE aims to improve communication in HPC and AI clusters using existing hardware, addressing current Ethernet technology’s limitations that struggle with high workloads and latency. This initiative parallels the efforts of the Ultra Ethernet Consortium, which also focuses on enhancing data transfer efficiency in advanced computing environments.
