Zig, a general-purpose programming language that interacts with C/C++ programs and promises to be a contemporary alternative to C, has been spotted on the Tiobe index of programming language popularity.
Despite having a rating of only 0.19%, Zig ranked 46th in the April edition of the Tiobe Programming Community Index, breaking into the top 50. The experimental C++ replacement language Carbon, promoted by Google, came in at just 168th place.
According to Tiobe, while abandoning other features like pre-processing, Zig has explicit memory management features from C and C++ that have been enhanced with option types. Although ranking in the top 50 is not a guarantee of success, Tiobe said it is an impressive beginning.
