AWS recently sent out notice to its current Amazon Aurora customers about the discontinuation of Serverless v1 support. The service is expected to shut down in a year.
Concerns about possible cost increases and the lack of a “true” serverless relational database on AWS have been voiced by the community in response to the latest Aurora Serverless v2’s inability to scale to zero. Some developers interpret the release of the eagerly awaited RDS Data API v2 as a sign that the cloud provider is attempting to close the gaps between the two versions.
Aside from the email sent to current Aurora Serverless v1 users, the cloud provider has not released a comprehensive roadmap or made any formal announcements about the service’s retirement.
