AWS revealed the preview of memory-optimized R8g instances running on fourth-generation Graviton processors at the most recent re:Invent.
The new instances are intended for use with memory-intensive workloads, such as real-time big data analytics, databases, and in-memory caches. The cloud provider states that Graviton4 processors offer up to 30% more compute performance, 50% more cores, and 75% more memory bandwidth than Graviton3 processors.
They also fully encrypt all high-speed physical hardware interfaces. The upcoming R8g instances will have 12 DDR5-5600 channels, 2 MB of L2 cache per core, and up to 96 Neoverse V2 cores.
